Winners at Vermont Quilt Festival

"Pineapple Patience" received a Blue Ribbon as did customer Beverly Nickerson's beautiful Bear Paw quilt that I quilted for her! Didn't get up to Vermont this year, too much traveling already in June, but was able to see the winning quilts on their site - gorgeous!

13 Pineapples

Spend the day making Pineapple blocks - up to 13 now and time to starch more of the black silk and interface and slice up more of the ties to keep the variety going. I'm thinking of changing out the thin gold stripe for the outer edge blocks. Will see what silk I have that would work.

NQA Show - Columbus, OH

Had a wonderful time at the NQA Show last week. Helped out with the technology in the Judging Room, pinned on ribbons, re-connected with Certified Judges from all over the country (esp. TX), celebrated the show winners, and taught at the Friday Morning Medley, a 15 minute segment on Quilting Designs EIGHT TIMES. Practice makes perfect! Each group did "get it" at the end so I was pleased. Also celebrated the ribbon wins of 2 customer quilts, Serena Vrnak's quilt, "A few of my favorite things" won 1st place in Group Quilts, and her quilt, "Family and Friends" won an Honorable Mention.
Congratulations to all the winners!

NQA Friday Morning Medley Quilt #1

Getting ready for a 15 minute lecture on Quilting Design at the National Quilting Association Show which begins a week from this coming Wed. The format of the Friday Morning Medley is stations that the participants rotate through every 15 minutes for 2 hours. I'll be demonstrating how to design quilting for maximum impact with the finale being two identical quilts - one thoughtfully quilted, the other "feathered to death". One quilt top is done and on the longarm, the other one is in process, just a tad short of one of its fabrics!

Five pineapple blocks done, 6 on the way

Have five blocks finished and time to interface some more of the ties and slice them up. Still have plenty of tie strips but don't want to lose the scrappy look by too much repetition. I have starched the solid silks to give them more body, thanks to a recommendation by by starch happy friend Debbie.
Had a quilting day today with Barbara and got a ton done.

Back from MQS

Had a wonderful time at MQS. The judging went very well, all the technology cooperated for my "Quilting Design" lecture and then Maryann and I had 3 days of classes on our Intelliquilters. Now that was fun! We figure we have two years worth of new methods and unknown buttons to practice on - plus, there's an update coming up within the next two weeks.

Had Bob adjust my IQ tablet today so it's at eye level - no more stiff neck and tomorrow will tackle the APQS static problem - hope it helps get rid of the surging in stitch regulator mode.

Magenta Mum Mini

Just finished binding my little "Magenta Mum Mini", 10" x 10", stitched on my longarm. A quilt this small looks really silly on a 14' longarm! I designed the stitching pattern on my robotic quilting computer, an Intelliquilter (IQ) , using a majority of geometric patterns included with the IQ and only one purchased pattern, the mum.

It's stitched on silk...love the way is looks!

Block #1 of my newest Pineapple quilt made entirely of silk. A good friend from out antique car crowd retired from his advertising agency in NYC and gave me a box of all of his ties. Here's the first block, paper pieced on Jane Hall's vellum foundation.

Great colors to work with - a lot of variety!

Additional House Mouse Quilt Pattern

If you're interested in an additional design for the House Mouse fabrics, you can find one I designed at quiltingtreasures.com. Go to "project sheets", then "quilting treasures project sheets" and then scroll down until you come the House Mouse quilt. It was made for Market last fall in a smaller size using 3 blocks across and was perfect for a baby quilt. The fabrics are adorable.

Thank you

Thank you all for visiting my blog during the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Blog Tour. I appreciate all your positive comments.

The winner of the free copy of the magazine was Shannon Handan. Quiltmaker will be sending that along to her.

I'll be continuing to post on my blog and adding more to it as I push myself further into blogland.

Enjoy!

Girls night out

Mudpie

My favorite of the mice. "He has a nick in his ear and he likes to eat!" Love the little rounded tummy - at least he's eating healthy.

Quiltmaker 100 Blocks

Hope you'll enjoy checking out my block! The fabric is from the "House Mouse" line of fabrics by Quilting Treasures. Adorable! I'll be posting some pictures of the block as it is in a quilt as well as a picture of a quilt made from the block.
I really enjoy designing quilts with the fabrics for children even before my granddaughter Sophia was born in 2010 and I link this back to my years as a librarian in a K-4 elementary school. Love those picture books!

My quilt hanging at Paducah!

My friend Doris Goins took this picture of "Pineapple Patience" hanging at Paducah - cool!

Little Faces

Two of the many little faces from the panel - they crack me up! I did showcase them in the sides of the block.

Maxwell Block

One of the many mischievous mice!

Here's the quilt made from the block. I did shuffle the block side color bars around to try to get a woven effect.

The Quiltmaker 100 blocks is such a great source of inspiration. Make sure you get your own copy when in hits the stores next week.

"Snack Time" Block

Here's the block as it is in the quilt which I'll also post later
